Number 1

I can go ahead and fill in my ballot for the final NCAA football rankings. I don't need to wait for the Ohio State v. Florida game in 6 days. I've seen all I need to see. I'm voting the Boise State Broncos as my number 1 team.

How can you do that, KJ, you ask? Aren't you an SEC boy? What if Florida wins against Ohio State? Well, I hope that happens, but that won't change my mind.

Why Boise State? Here is why:

1. They beat a very good, No. 7 ranked 10-2 Oklahoma team that lost only once (and once more on a call so bad the refs responsible were suspended for the rest of the year) in the best, wildest game I have seen since that Doug Flutie game against Miami.

2. They are undefeated, 13-0, having beaten every team they played. No matter what, neither Ohio State, which played the weakest Big 10 schedule possible, or Florida, can say that.

3. The National Championship in football is mythical. I can vote for any undefeated team I want. So like when I was ready to vote for the snubbed Auburn and Utah, I can vote for Boise State.

4. You know as well as I do that Oklahoma could have played with Ohio State. Boise State beat them.

5. Boise State plays their home games on a blue turf field. See picture. How do they do that you ask? Well, c'mon. Turf is plastic. They can make it any color you want.

So there you have it. I loved last night's game, and I think Boise State should get a share of the Title.

My final season top ten:

1. Boise State
2. Ohio St./Florida winner
3. Wisconsin
4. Ohio St./Florida loser
5. Auburn or
6. LSU if they win
7. Kentucky (screw Louisville and USC). The Cats won their first bowl game in 22 years.
8. Who cares.
9.
10.

Enjoy the rest of the meaningless games.

Sorry, KJ, but aqny team that plays on blue turf and needs a Statue of Liberty play to win a game on a two point conversion in overtime after blowing an 18 point lead does not deserve to be #1. Not this year anyway. Change the color of the field and we'll talk.

BS, spd. That game wouldn't have been close were it not for the fluke punt bounce in the third quarter.

Let's review the BSU 2006 schedule:

Sacramento
Oregon State
Wyoming
Hawaii
Utah
Louisiana Tech
New Mexico State
Idaho
Fresno State
San Jose State
Utah State
Nevada

Oklahoma

Of those, only Oregon State made it into the top 25.

Now, 'm not saying that BSU shouldn't be proud of their season, or that they shouldn't be taken seriously in 2008. But OU played 5 ranked teams, and seven of their 13 regular season opponents went to bowl games (as opposed to 1 of BSU's).

Plus the blue astro turf hurts my eyes.

Right, and BSU beat OU. Thus, BSU beat 5 more ranked teams, plus OU.

Or are you referring to Ohio State? Bottom line, though, is "so what." No one can claim they beat BSU. If Florida wins, no one can say they weren't beaten -- by anyone.

I just don't know. I would like to agree with KJ, just because I hate the arrogance of the Big 11 when they win national championships. And I don't care for Florida either. I have my doubts as to whether BSU could beat OSU** but I will say this, they beat a damn good, well coached Oklahoma team.

The announcers always talk about the rich pageantry of the bowl games. Yeah, as far as pageantry goes, it sure is rich. I saw some damn rich pageantry yesterday. Now I love rich pageantry as much as the next football fan, but we shouldn't even be having this conversation. We should be enjoying pageantry poor playoff games.

**I confess I missed the game. January first is my wifes birthday, and I watched Nebraska give a game to Auburn. Then I made the mistake of watching Wisconsin and Arkansas then USC and Michigan. Wy wife finally played the birthday card, and I really wanted to see what Boise State was all about.

Well, Pile, I understand, but you missed the best game of the bunch. Yes, Boise State used some tricks to tie the game late (sort of like Nebraska's fumblrinski or whatever) and used a trick play on the two point conversion in the first overtime (they didn't wait to go for the win -- you gotta love that too), but the other 59:30 of the game was head to head physical football. And Boise State did more than hold its own. A fluke punt bounce in the middle of the third quarter resulting in a first and goal for OU with Boise State up 28-10 turned the game around to give OU a chance. Also, BSU's trick 2 point play is a perfect example of having one more look -- they ran the wide receiver screen out of that same formation earlier in the season on a 2 point play. OU recognized it and played for the same play. But BSU had another option, and the guy walked into the end zone. Bottom line was it was a fun game.

And for the life of me, I don't understand how you can justify a national championship game between OSU and one loss Florida (as much as I root for the SEC) when there is an undefeated team not getting its chance.

What in the holy hell is a fluke punt bounce?

Oh never mind. I think I get it. It just made me laugh. Anyway, I am still thinking about that poor dude who caught the ball with his feet.

pppphhhhttt.

I hate Florida. They're just a bunch of whiners. Nice cheerleaders, though.

What the hell is THIS? A foreign language???

Did anyone understand what he meant by ANY OF THAT? I got about 3 words out of 10..."the" "and"... oooh! "earlier" - I've heard that one before somewhere!

Hmmmmmppphhhh.

You might want to get your facts straight here. BSU had 5 opponents that went to bowl games (5.. not 1) Of those 5, 4 won their bowl games and the only loss was Nevada to Miami by ONE point. As for Oklahoma's opponents and their bowl games... 3 won their games 5 did not (if you count Oklahoma's loss to Boise State) Of those 3 wins, Texas Tech pulled off a miracle coming from behind against Minnesota, Texas Barely won and Ok States game was close as well. I'm not trying to bring you down or anything here, but the facts needed to be straightened out.
