Falcolns Suck Again!

The Atlanta Falcons have never had back to back winning seasons. Never.

The franchise was founded in 1965 by Rankin Smith. His family of bad owners owned the team until 2001, when Home Depot founder Arthur Blank bought the team. He reduced ticket prices to sell out the Dome so the home games could be seen on TV. He brought in some big name players, including Michael Vick, and a good coach in Jim Mora. In 2002 the Falcons went 9-6-1 and made the playoffs in Vick's first year as a starter. In 2003, he got hurt in the preseason, and the season went down with him. But despite going 5-11, the Falcons ended the year 3-1 after Vick's retrn.

With two healthy season by Vick, now would be the time to end this drought of no back to back winning seasons.

Last years' team went 11-5 and made the NFC Championship Game. That team returned many stars, including Warrick Dunn and Michael Vick on offense. The Falcons started out 2005 by beating the NFC Champion Eagles. That turned out to be no big deal this year. They barely lost to the Seahawks, which seemed at the time to be a major let down, but turned out to be no big deal since the Seahawks are the best team in the NFC this year.

The 2005 Falcons compiled a 6-2 record, losing by only 6 total point to the Seahawks and world champion Patriots. Finally, Atlanta thought. Not only back to back winning seasons, but back to back playoff seasons.

Alas, God saw what was happening and said -- "Hell No!"

Despite a healthy Vick, the Falcons will end the season 8-8 after losing several games they should have won, including two to the Bucs, and getting blown out in a few others.

Even Arthur Blank, who bought and turned this team around in the eyes of the city and on the field, has his limits.

It goes without saying that I have no sympathy for Red Sox fans.

Um.....
Why don't you have sympathy for Red Sox fans?

Oh, that's right. We won one.
Don't get angry, get cable.

Keep in mind we in Atlanta aren't even whining about not having a championship. Heck, the Red Sox had lots of back to back winning seasons, with several playoff and pennants thrown in to boot.

We just want back to back winning, and maybe playoff, seasons.

Is that so wrong?

I almost spit my coffee out three times while reading this post, KJ.

The 'Skins tried their best to eliminate themselves from the playoffs last night but narrowly avoided world-class suckitude at the last minute. This had to be one of the more bizarre weekends of football I've seen in my life. Last night I scared the hell out of my daughter in law because she's never heard me yell at football, and Saturday I was laughing so hard I almost stopped breathing at the inane commentary during the Giants game.

I think they were smoking weed up there in the booth - I finally lost count of the number of times they said, "Wow!". Pithy quote of the evening: "You know, I have never been an NFL coach, but all I can say is....Wow..."

You say that like you are some kind of NFL coach or something KJ.

He's just doing that to aggravate me.

As long as he doesn't say "Daunte Culpepper".

Or "Tiki Barber" (this season's hot-button name - there's always one). That will really send me around the bend.

I'm cheering for that 'last-place in the league' team that just made the playoffs....you know, the one that shellacked the Giants weekend before last????

Heh.
